Unveiling a statue of the poet in the Raj Bhavan, the Governor said, “Three kurals from different chapters of Tirukkural are inscribed on the three sides of the Thiruvalluvar statue. They highlight the importance of wisdom, love and education.”
The Tirukkural on gratitude highlights importance of the help given by those who never expect anything in return. “Under the head ‘learning,’ the kural engraved in the pedestal of Thiruvalluvar’s statue underlines the uniqueness of the wealth of learning and reveals that it could never be lost and all other wealth are no real wealth in comparison to it,” he said.
“On the other side of the pedestal there is a kural, which says that when the eyes of the one conveys the message of love, which the eyes of the other gladly receive; of what use are the words uttered by lips?” he added.
The Governor appealed to the students and youth to lead a true and moral life dedicated to the cause of humanity and promote greenery for copious rains, preserve water, maintain hygiene and cleanliness for developing a healthy tomorrow.
Sevvoor S Ramachandran, Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments, Justice M Karpaga Vinayagam, former Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court and officials were present.
