Stating that the order was expected, general secretary of the Doctors' Association for Social Equality Dr G R Ravindranath said, "Confusion prevails at the all India level and in Tamil Nadu due to wrong policies of the Central Government which are against the federal system  of our county and a state's autonomy."

Blaming the Supreme Court and the Medical Council of India (MCI), he said the centre should bring an ordinance to amend the MCI Act to provide 50 per cent quota for service candidates and to enable the states to follow their rules of reservation and admission procedures and this ordinance should be brought immediately, opined the doctor.

Dr Senthil, an activist, said, "Some students had stated valid points in the court with regard to NEET. They brought up the issue of disparity owing to question papers printed in 10 languages. However, the Supreme Court order regarding the same was disappointing."

"The ordinance is the only solution that will help. It will solve the service quota problems of Tamil Nadu and other states. Also, the state government should pressurise the centre to get the President's assent for the two bills that were passed in the state Assembly, to get exemption for  state government controlled medical seats from NEET," said Dr Ravindranath.
