Nagasubramani (name changed), the convict, a power loom worker from a village near Komarapalayam in Namakkal district had been raping the girl for nearly four years. Police said that by the time the incident came to light, the girl was 16. Â
She had become pregnant thrice, but was forced to undergo abortion on all the occasions. It is learnt that his wife had undergone a hysterectomy, after which he started targeting his daughter.Â
Nagasubramani used to get his wife drunk and when she loses consciousness, he used to rape the girl. He also threatened his wife that he would kill both of them if they revealed the abuse to anyone. The abuse came to light when the girl’s aunt noticed her frail health. Childline 1098 rescued the girl after an alert from the victim’s aunt.Â
A medical examination revealed that she had been undergoing sexual abuse for long. The Komarapalayam police registered a case against her father under sections of the POCSO Act and IPC. Meanwhile, the man escaped and this delayed his arrest.Â
The mahila court judge Elango convicted and sentenced him to life imprisonment, besides a three-year term for criminal intimidation.
