Helicopter tourism soon in Tiruchy
Vayujet, a Puducherry-based private airways, is planning to launch a helicopter service from Tiruchy to link it with key areas in the central districts. The air carrier is also planning to launch domestic flight services to various tourist spots across the nation from Rock City.

According to K Muruga Perumal, director (technical) of Vayujet, the non-scheduled operations of the airline will begin from Tiruchy from July 28 to Tirupati, Madurai, and Coimbatore.Â
The official further said the entire fleet will be of Embraer aircraft, which will have a seating capacity of 50 and the company is aiming at tapping the vast passenger volume in the domestic sector in the central region of the state.Â
The airlines will commence its scheduled operations from October, the official said and added it will ply regular service to Chennai from Tiruchy.Â
Meanwhile, the airline has come out with a novel idea of launching helicopter services as a promotional initiative and to show people the places of pride in the central regions. Srirangam, Kallanai, Thanjavur Big Temple and Mukkombu dam would form the list of places in the tour packages that would be offered for a price of Rs 5,000 as part of the promotional initiative and it would be extended based on the response, said the officials.Â
The helicopter would carry a team of 5 to 8 persons. It would initially stay in Tiruchy for three days and switch over to Coimbatore and then to Madurai alternately, the official further added.Â
The airline is expected to commence bookings through its office to be opened in Tiruchy shortly. Airline authorities said that by October, the company would begin its full-fledged operations with another aircraft to carry passengers to Chennai.
