    Party cadre resort to road blockade in all districts protesting arrest of Stalin

    The cadre of the DMK resorted to protests in all the districts across the state following the arrest of their party’s working president and Leader of Opposition in the Assembly M K Stalin in Chennai on Wednesday.

    Series of protests were witnessed in several areas of various central districts. In Tiruchy over 500 members were arrested for protesting in as many as 13 places, while in Thanjavur, over 800 were held for blocking roads in 22 places. 

    The DMK cadre raised slogans against the state government and demanded the Centre to dissolve the government as the elected members were bribed for backing Chief Minister Palanisamy during the trust vote. 

    Similar protests were held at Perambalur, Pudukkottai, Karur and Ariyalur and the cadre were rounded up in all these places. In Western districts, protests were held at various places condemning the state government and the police for arresting M K Stalin and party MLAs. 

    In Coimbatore city protests erupted at five places shortly after the arrest of Stalin and other party leaders. In all 245 cadre and functionaries were arrested for blocking roads in front of the party’s district office near the North Coimbatore Flyover, Singanallur Bus Stand, Avinashi Road at Peelamedu, Peelamedu Pudur and Sundarapuram. 

    At Salem, cadre resorted to road blockades near the Collectorate, Ammapet, Kondalampatti and Edappadi. Similar protests were held in Madurai, Ramanathapuram, Tirunelveli, Virudhunagar, Thoothukudi, Kanniyakumari and other southern districts.
