Madurai MLAs will resign for AIIMS, claims Minister
A day after he offered to quit his ministerial post, if Madurai fails to get the proposed AIIMS, state Revenue Minister RB Udayakumar said all the AIADMK MLAs from the district would resign their posts, if it didn’t come through.

He was speaking to reporters on Saturday after laying the foundation for a new road worth Rs 1.2 crore funded by the NABARD at T Kallupatti in the district.Â
The minister said that 217 acres was allotted in Thoppur near Madurai for the setting up of an AIIMS hospital. Even a central team inspected the land in 2015. Earlier, Madurai was preferred as people of more than 15 districts would be benefited. But, now there was a talk among the officials that the hospital might be shifted out of Madurai.Â
“If the AIIMS hospital is shifted out of Madurai, I will resign my MLA post along with all AIADMK MLAs from the district,” Udayakumar said and added, “Former chief minister J Jayalalithaa made me a minister to serve the people. When the post is not of any use to serve them, there is no purpose in retaining the same.”Â
Echoing his words Tirupparankundram MLA AK Bose, who was present in the function, said, “All the 10 MLAs in the district will resign in protest. We will persuade the two other DMK MLAs too from the district to resign for the cause of an AIIMS hospital,” he added.
