Charges framed against TTV Dinakaran in FERA case
Three days after AIADMK Deputy General Secretary TTV Dinakaran’s release on bail in a case of allegedly trying to bribe an Election Commission official to get back the AIADMK’s Two Leaves symbol, a Chennai court on Thursday framed charges against him in a FERA (Foreign Exchange Regulation Act) violation case filed by the Enforcement Directorate.

Following Dinakaran’s appearance in person with a battery of lawyers, the Additional Chief Metropolitan Mgistrate S Malarmathy read out the charges against him. But Dinakaran refuted all of them. The judge then posted the case to June 22 for further trial, when evidences from the Government side will be examined.
Dinakaran faces two cases registered by the Enforcement Directorate in 2001. While Judge Malarmathy had already framed charges in one of the cases, which pertains to the transfer of $ 1.04 crore to Dipper investment through Barclay Bank, the charge framed on Thursday is about another FERA case where he had illegally routed $36.36 crore and 1 lakh pounds for starting a star hotel and a wine factory in United Kingdom It may be noted that Dinkaran’s appearance comes after several exemption petitions filed by him were rejected. The judge had made it clear that the person accused ought to be present while the charges are framed.
