Replying to a special mention brought in by different members on the issue during zero hour, Narayanasamy said, “Centre is trying to impose schemes which are being objected by the people.”
The Chief Minister said social organisations are opposing the move. The central government cannot interfere or dictate on the food habit of the people, he said and added that in the North-Eastern states, 95 per cent population are non-vegetarians. 40 per cent of the population in the country used to eat meat and ignoring all these facts the union government brought the order, he added.
Naryanasamy said the people of Puducherry were of French culture and traditionally non-vegetarians. Almost all the states are opposing the move of the union government, he added and said that the unilateral decision of the union government could not be accepted and already Kerala and Karnataka had announced that it will not be accepted.
Based on the requests from the legislators and considering the welfare of the people of Puducherry, the order will not be implemented in the Union territory. He said that he proposed to send a letter to Prime minister Narendra Modi and if necessary due legislation would be enacted not to implement it.
Earlier, AIADMK member A Anbazhagan wanted the government to adopt a resolution opposing the move of the union government while DMK member R Siva said that the authoritarian attitude of the Centre need to be condemned. The Modi government is trying to impose RSS principles on the people of the country. NR Congress members also opposed the order.
