Khushbu flays Centre on cattle ban, tells BJP men to boycott leather

Condemning the Centre for its ban on sale of unproductive animals for slaughter at the livestock markets, national spokesperson of the Congress Khushbu wondered whether the BJP cadre would stop wearing footwears as they were made of leather.

She asked whether the Centre would ban consumption of fruits and vegetables, since flora was classified as living things. “Soon the BJP would also say breathing would affect the living organisms in the atmosphere, therefore stop breathing too,” she charged.

Khushbu further said, “I choose what food should be there on my platter. Nobody else can decide that for anyone. If it is done, then it is a clear violation of fundamental rights.”

The actor turned politician also took a dig at Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisamy. She said that he should concentre more on ensuring the welfare of the people than limiting himself with intra-party affairs. “Tamil Nadu accounts for 40 per cent of leather export in the country. The notification will deal a heavy blow to that industry. I don’t know whether the Chief Minister has any plans to compensate the industry,” she said and added that at a time when every party except the ruling AIADMK government had registered their opposition, the CM had refused to comment on the issue.

“This makes it conspicuous of the state’s stand – not to antagonise the Centre. The state government is scared to oppose the Centre as it may lead to the loss of support. The state is in dire need of securing Centre’s blessings,” she charged. She asked BJP cadre to stop using leather products, if they are so concerned about the cows.
