He said, “Those, who have lost respect in the people’s court, should not talk about the sanctity and pride of the Legislative Assembly.”

He further said that Jayalalithaa was a chief minister, who won the hearts of all people with her innovative schemes.

A majority of her schemes changed the living standards of the poor in the state. People of the state were waiting for the day when her picture would be installed in the Assembly, he added.

Listing out the achievements of the former chief minister, OPS highlighted her feat of becoming the chief minister for the sixth time by winning in successive elections in 2011 and 2016. “The decision to unveil her portrait on the Assembly premises was a natural wish of the electorate,” he said.

“Some are annoyed that they are unable to return to power after the defeat in 1967 polls in the state and a few others are jealous that they are not able to send even a single representative to the Assembly,” the AIADMK (PTA) leader said in a veiled reference to the Congress and BJP respectively.

It was such persons who were against Jayalalithaa’s portrait in the Assembly, he added.
