Low-lying bridge washed away after heavy rains in Krishnagiri

Heavy rains across Krishnagiri district washed away a low-lying temporary bridge across ‘Akkathangai’ forest river near Anchetty on Saturday. This affected connectivity to many villages. Construction of the road level bridge was recently initiated to connect villages at Anchetty with Denkanikottai.

A temporary bridge was created by placing cement pipes on the ground and placing cement slabs on it to help the bikers to reach their destination. Due to sudden downpour since Friday night the temporary bridge was washed away, while the bridge under construction got submerged below two feet deep water. It affected connectivity to villages and hamlets, including Keratti, Thottamanji, Jesupuram and Natrampalayam.

Villagers were forced to travel nearly 7 km more to reach their destinations. District administration officials visited the spot and assessed the situation. On a request from the villagers, the officials said that they will take interim measures to restore vehicle traffic between the villages.

Four houses collapsed in Thally due to continuous rains in the early hours of Saturday. The houses belonged to Rekha (40), Kathiramma (45), Savithri (48) and Venkatramappa (52). Police said that nobody was injured in the incident. From Friday morning to Saturday morning, Krishnagiri received 63 mm rainfall, followed by 60 mm in Denkanikottai.
