The transport unions had temporarily withdrawn their strike on May 16 after the government assured them that their demands would be resolved gradually.

Later, the government agreed to release Rs 1,250 crore. A Soundararajan, president, Tamil Nadu State Transport Employees Federation, said “We will submit our demands, including wage hike, making reserved employees permanent and releasing pending amount.” If the government does not agree, the unions may have to take tough decisions, he emphasised.

V Krishnamurthy, MD of MTC and head of the government panel said, “We are ready to hold talks and heed to the unions’ demands.”
