Come back, Palanisamy appeals to party’s rival faction leaders
In the midst of heated exchanges of words between the two factions of the AIADMK, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisamy has reiterated his appeal to the O Panneerselvam camp to come back to the party. He made this appeal thrice in his address to party cadre at Mettupalayam, while taking part in the events there on his return from The Nilgiris to Coimbatore on Saturday.

Palanisamy was speaking after presiding over the centenary celebrations of party founder MG Ramachandran and the 69th birthday celebrations of former general secretary of the party J Jayalalithaa. He distributed welfare assistance to beneficiaries and welcomed 1,000 cadre from another parties, who joined the AIADMK in his presence.
“Those, who lost their paths and strayed away should come back,” he said once. In the second instance, he said that they should come back to fulfil the election assurance of Jayalalithaa, for whom the people had cast their votes. In another place, he said that those who have left should come back to the AIADMK so that the government can continue.
Though he was hitting out at Panneerselvam, Palanisamy expressed confidence that both factions would unite. He was also careful while referring to OPS as ‘someone.’ “Someone claims that people are behind him. But, they should not forget that people are behind MGR and Jayalalithaa. It is the only reason people have elected them as MLAs,” the Chief Minister said.
Commenting on Mettupalayam MLA OK Chinnaraj – who is among the three MLAs from Coimbatore who belong to the faction headed by former chief minister Panneerselvam – he said that the MLA should come back to fulfil the poll assurances he gave to the people of his Assembly segment.
The Chief Minister said that the state government has sanctioned Rs 224 crore for the Mettupalayam Ring Road, Rs 92 crore for the underground drainage scheme to prevent direct discharge of sewage into River Bhavani. He also said that works would soon commence for the long awaited Athikadavu-Avinashi Ground Water Recharge Scheme.
However, Palanisamy refused to comment on questions raised by journalists on when the local body elections would be conducted and on the complaints made by Panneerselvam with the Election Commission on Friday. On Saturday afternoon, he flew back to Chennai.
