    Prison inmates post 100 pc pass in Western TN

    Their strength may be less than schools but two of the three prisons in Western Tamil Nadu have recorded 100 per cent pass in the SSLC Board Exams. In all 62 inmates of the Coimbatore Central Prison, Salem Central Prison and the Special Prison for Women in Coimbatore wrote the board exam at the Coimbatore Central Prison this year.

    All the 13 students of the Salem Central Prison and the two inmates of the Special Prison for Women in Coimbatore have cleared the exams.

     Of the 47 inmates of the Coimbatore Central Prison who wrote the exam 42 of them have passed. Among the five of them who could not make it one failed in a subject and two each in two papers and three papers, respectively.

     Three life convicts scored the top three scores in Coimbatore. Life convict Ramkumar (27) of Karumathampatty in Coimbatore top scored in Coimbatore, scoring 389 marks, followed by the 1998 serial bomb blast case convict Tada Aslam (37) with 388 marks. Convict Murthi (27) from Udhagamandalam came third with 380 marks.

     Inmates of the Special Prison for Women, Coimbatore, Subbulakshmi (a remand prisoner) and Indira (Goondas Act detainee) scored 383 marks and 343 marks, respectively. Among prisoners of the Salem Central Prison Sanjay (341 marks), Kadhar Nawaz (317 marks) and Kannan (310 marks) scored the first three marks.

    Prison teacher K. Sakthivel said that this year 99 of the 100 students who appeared for the Class Eight examinations have passed and all of them would be enrolled for SSLC in the coming year. “Those who cleared the SSLC exams will be enrolled for Plus Two next year (2018-19),” the teacher added.
