What gave him up was his demand for money from the brother of contractor Ramesh Babu, who is an AIADMK functionary close to Minister OS Manian.

Sources said that the accused Ganesan of Muthiyalpettai in Puducherry, visited the house of Ramesh Babu on Sunday evening. He introduced himself as a CBI officer to Ramesh Babu’s brother Srinivasan.

He reportedly told him that senior officials sent him to raid their house and demanded money to evade search and further action.

Srinivasan grew suspicious and contacted the Srikazhi police. Police questioned Ganesan. He later confessed that he wanted to make some quick bucks by using the recent fluid situation in the state.

Police filed a case and arrested Ganesan. He was produced before the Mayiladuthurai court and remanded in judicial custody.
