    Southern districts score well

    Southern districts were at their usual best in the Class 12 results released on Friday. Six of the southern districts topped the top 10 places in the overall pass percentage.

    Madurai

    Virudhunagar district secured top position this year, with the overall pass percentage of 97.85 percentage. 

    Virudhunagar district was followed by Ramnathapuram district which secured second rank with the overall pass percentage of 96.77. Ramanthapuram had jumped seven places from ninth to second place. In 2015-16, the overall pass percentage of Ramanathapuram district was 95.04 percentage. 

    Thoothukudi is at fourth place, with 96.44 pass percentag, while  Sivaganga is at rank six, with 96.18 percentage, Tirunelveli has secured seventh rank, with  96.08 percentage and Theni is at number nine, with 95.93 percentage. In all, the three southern districts occupied the top five positions and six districts occupied the top 10 positions. Kanniyakumari, Dindigul and Madurai were the other three southern districts to miss out in the top 10 ranks in overall pass percentage. Kanniyakumari district is the only southern district which had slipped out of top 10 positions compared to the previous year. 

    In 201516 the district had secured fourth position and it slipped seven positions to reach eleventh position. However its overall pass percentage had witnessed a slight increase from 95.7 to 95.75 percentage. 

    Madurai’s marginal improvement 

    In Madurai, 39,022 students including 20,229 girl students, had written the examination and out of them 36,529 had passed registering an overall pass percentage of 93.61. The total pass percentage of boys is 90.59 and that of girls is 96.42. Madurai Collector, K Veera Raghav Rao, in a press meet, said that the pass percentage of the district had increased by 0.42 percentage when compared to the previous year. 

    In Madurai, out of 300 schools 90 schools secured 100 percentage pass. In government schools the pass percentage was 89.27 percentage and in Corporation schools the pass percentage was 92.76 percentage. Adidravidar schools registered a pass percentage of 88.93 and Kallar Reclamation schools registered the pass percentage of 93.36 percentage. 

    Virudhunagar's Victory

    In the last four years, it has secured state first twice, and state third, twice. 

    In 2013-14, it secured third rank with 96.12 overall pass percentage. 

    In 2014-15, it secured first rank, with 97.46 percentage. 

    In 2015-16, it slipped to third place with 95.73 percentage.

    In 2016-17, the district once again stood first.
