The Lord's entry into the river is part of the 'Chitrai' festival, being celebrated for the past 20 days in this temple city Madurai.
Devotees offered worship to the Lord.
Last night, special abhishekams were performed to the idol which was brought from Alagarkoil, a hill temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu, 20 km from Madurai.
Police made tight security arrangements.Â
