Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation floats tenders to procure 70 lakh set top boxes
Low cost DTH service from the state government just got one step closer to reality with TACTV (Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation) on Saturday floating tenders to procure over seven million set top boxes, barely a month after the Union government issued digital addressable system (DAS) licence to the state-owned company.
Chennai
If the tender document posted on the official government website were something to go by, TACTV would purchase around 60 lakh SD (Standard Definition) and 10 lakh HD (High Definition) set top boxes to roll out DAS (Digital Addressable System) throughout the state on a fast track basis.Â
TACTV has also evinced interest to get price discovery for Triple Play Set Top Box and Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS) cable model, which would help realise government’s proposal to provide Internet service through TACTV.Â
As per the tender, which would be finalised on May 29, the set top boxes would have a replacement warranty for five years from the supply date.Â
Suppliers should provide free maintenance support for all items, unlike private service providers who charge for every maintenance visit.Â
All set top box suppliers should have service support facility in every taluk besides a call centre in Chennai and a 24x7 toll free number for every 5 lakh boxes to handle complaints in Tamil and English.Â
Likewise, the set top box suppliers should maintain a stock of 5% of the quantity supplied in each distort on pro-rata basis to facilitate hassle free replacement.
