Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project unit II shut down due to water leakage
The second unit of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP) has been shut down due to water and steam leakage, an official said on Saturday.

The plant’s operator, Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) said the Unit-II is likely to restart on May 11. “The unit was shut down due to steam and water leakage. We have to first cool the reactor and then set right the system,” HN Sahu, Site Director, KNPP said.
Tamil Nadu’s daily power demand will not be affected by the shutdown of unit II of the Koodankulam Nuclear Power Plant (KKNPP) as the state has enough installed capacity to override the crisis, TANGEDCO officials told DTNext on Saturday.
KKNPP’s units I and II have an installed power production capacity of 1000 MW each. “While Unit I has commenced commercial production, unit II is still undergoing test runs” officials said. “Power produced during test runs is also diverted to the state power grid” officials added. Assuring the public that there was no need for any anxiety, officials said TN Transmission Corporation’s (TANTRANSCO) daily load despatch revealed that lightning peak was only 14, 986 MW against the total installed capacity of 18, 104 MW.
