Sources said that SVS Kumar, a realtor from Keezhavacherry near Needamangalam in Tiruvarur, lodged a complaint against Kamaraj claiming that he had received Rs 30 lakh from him for election expenses in 2011. The minister also promised to help Kumar to evict an occupant from one of his houses in Chennai.Â
However, after winning the election from Nannilam segment in Tiruvarur, Kamaraj and his brother-in-law Ramakrishnan, who is serving as Assistant PRO in the Secretariat, failed to keep their word and they even threatened Kumar of dire consequences, sources added.Â
When Kumar approached the police with a complaint against them, Mannargudi police failed to register a case. The realtor knocked on the door of the Madras High Court and appealed for a direction to file a case against them. Subsequently, the High Court directed the Mannargudi DSP N Natarajan to probe the complaint and register a case against the Minister and his relative. However, it was learnt that the DSP secured all the relevant documents in possession of Kumar against the two and allegedly acted in support of the Minister.Â
Finding no support in the state, Kumar approached the apex court. The Supreme Court directed the state to initiate action against the Minister before May 8. Based on the direction, the Mannargudi police registered a case.
