Thyagaraja’s 250th birth anniversary marked by devotional fervour
As part of the 250th birth anniversary celebrations of the Carnatic music legend Thyagaraja, devotees rendered Pancharatna Kritis of Thyagaraja on Wednesday in front of the Kamalambal shrine in the temple at Tiruvarur.
Unjavruthi bhajan was held from the house at New Street in Tiruvarur in the early hours where the saint poet-composer Thyagaraja was born. The portrait of Thyagaraja was taken in a procession with the students of Tiruvarur Government Music school playing the nagaswaram and thavil.
After reaching the Kamalambal shrine, musicians rendered Pancharatna Keertanas, which were composed by Thyagaraja.
