While his wife Vinupriya and daughter Neethu were killed on the spot, it was suspected that it could have been a bid on his life by fellow accused in the Kodanad Estate case.

Sayan, who suffered a fractured rib, punctured lung, damaged liver and multiple cut injuries is being treated at a private hospital in Coimbatore. Hospital sources said that Sayan suffered breathing difficulty on Tuesday and also found it difficult to talk. His condition is being constantly monitored in the intensive care unit amidst tight police security.

    Inquiry with Sayan

Meanwhile, the Palakkad police are trying to conduct an inquiry with Sayan from Saturday, but they were denied permission as they had not obtained it from the police officer or the magistrate concerned. The hospital authorities claimed that obtaining permission was necessary as he is a suspect in the sensational Kodanad Estate case.

At last, on Tuesday afternoon, officer Manoj, the Palakkad South Circle Inspector, after getting necessary permission conducted inquires with Sayan for nearly half an hour – from 2 pm. The officer said that he was asked by the Tamil Nadu Police not to inquire about the Kodanad Estate case.

    Visit to Palani Murugan temple

Talking to reporters, the police officer quoted Sayan as claiming that he had lost control of the vehicle as he fell asleep and met with the accident and it was not an incident. The officer said that Sayan, his wife and daughter had gone to the Palani Murugan temple on Friday (April 28) morning and were returning to Thrissur by road that evening.

Manoj said that Sayan felt drowsy while driving the vehicle and took a break at Pollachi in Coimbatore district around 7 pm before moving to Thrissur.

“But once again he lost control of the vehicle as he felt drowsy and his vehicle ran into a goods carrier early in the morning on Saturday,” he said. The officer said that Sayan would be quizzed again after he is discharged from the hospital.
