CM Edappadi Palanisamy’s convoy delayed due to pipeline burst on Salem national highway
The Salem to Coimbatore national highway at the Butterfly Flyover was flooded during the early hours of Monday due to bursting of a big water pipeline. The flooding also delayed Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisamy’s convoy passing through that road on his way to Coimbatore.
Coimbatore
Residents of Salem city are no exemption to drinking water crisis. Road blocks and demonstrations seeking good drinking water supply have become a common sight at least once in a week. Around 3 am on Monday the residents of Kondalampatti were horrified to see their houses flooded by the precious commodity.
There was flooding in the service lanes on both sides of the highway. More than 50 Salem Corporation sanitary workers were roped in to bring the situation under control. Using 10 tankers and motors they pumped the water into a nearby drain. After hours of struggle they prevented the road from being flooded.
This delayed the Chief Minister’s convoy passing by that stretch to reach Coimbatore, to fly to Chennai.
