The incident occurred on Saturday night when the deceased, Sakthivel (28), from the same village, who had recently separated from his wife, was drinking liquor along with his friend Krishnan at a farm. Meanwhile, the 64-year-old Chelladurai, who was passing by, joined them too.

Suddenly, Chelladurai stole Sakthivel’s mobile phone and when the latter was searching for it, he found it in the possession of the former. Sakthivel then called Chelladurai a thief and sent him away. Chelladurai, who was already in an inebriated state, threatened Sakthivel of dire consequences and proceeded towards his house. When Chelladurai returned to the farm, Krishnan had left and Sakthivel was sleeping. Chelladurai beheaded him and took the severed head to his house.

Chelladurai then showed Sakthivel’s head to his father Palanisamy and told him that he had murdered Sakthivel for calling him a thief. A shocked Palanisamy immediately informed Thevaram police who then rushed to the spot. Chelladurai was roaming in the village with Sakthivel’s head when the cops rounded him up. Officers retrieved Sakthivel’s body and a murder case was booked against Chelladurai.
