Aavin’s new plant in Madurai to generate 200 jobs
The foundation stone for ice cream and flavoured milk manufacturing units of Aavin was laid at Madurai, on Friday by KT Rajendra Balaji, Minister for Milk and Dairy Development, in the presence of State Revenue Minister, RB Udayakumar, and State Minister for Cooperation, Sellur Raju.

Sellur Raju said that the late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa had declared that under Rule 110, an ice cream manufacturing plant would be set up at Madurai Aavin parlour at a cost of Rs.55.95 crore. Similarly in March, the state government had announced that it would setup a flavoured milk production plant at Madurai at the cost of Rs.40 crore. To fulfil the promises, foundation stone for both the plants have been laid now.
Udayakumar said presently ice creams sold at Aavin outlets throughout the state are being manufactured at the Chennai plant alone and when the ice cream production commences at Madurai it will result in increased ice cream sales at southern districts.
He also said that as mercury had been steadily rising, the rate of the buttermilk sold at Aavin would be reduced from Rs 7 to Rs 5 from May 1. Rajendra Balaji said that the new plant would provide employment to 200 persons . He also said that 200 new Aavin parlours would be opened across the state.
