He had informed his friends on his Facebook page on Thursday midnight, that he would begin a protest on top of the cell phone tower at Ramhanuman Nagar at Kovilpatti. He climbed the tower at 2 30 am on Friday.

In the morning when some of his friends noticed his post, they informed the police. When they reached the site of the cell phone tower, they found Abdullah on top of it. When police questioned him, he told them that after he had converted to Islam some people had attacked him.

Though the police tried to bring him down he did not budge. He had a blade with him and threatened the police that he would slit his hands if they tried to compel him. Left with no other choice, police supplied food and juice to him and tried to pacify him.

After protesting for 8 hours, at around 10 30 am, based on the assurance given by the police, he climbed down. Then he was taken to the Kovilpatti West police station and a complaint was obtained from him. Abdullah informed the police that he could identify the people who had attacked him and if the police did not take action on his complaint he would stage a protest in New Delhi. Following the complaint he was warned and let off.

Sources claimed that his original name was Jothi Ramesh and even his parents did not know about his conversion to Islam. He had completed Class 12 and was unemployed. He had developed a radical view about society and hence had converted to Islam, claimed sources.
