Dinakaran has backing of 87 MLAs, says Sampath
Even as merger talks between the two factions failed to make any headway on Thursday with both camps sticking to their stand, senior party leader and AIADMK (A) spokesperson Nanjil Sampath introduced a new complication by announcing that party deputy general secretary TTV Dinakaran had the support of 87 MLAs.

He added that the removal of VK Sasikala’s banners from the AIADMK headquarters was a ‘historical blunder’.
Stating that Dinakaran’s interrogation was only a drama, he said certain people were making efforts to sideline him in Tamil Nadu politics.
“Dinakaran was arrested by the New Delhi police without evidence,” he said.
AIADMK (PTA) spokesperson and former minister C Ponnaiyan, when asked about Nanjil Sampath’s claim of 87 MLAs supporting Dinakaran, said it was clear that Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisamy had the support of only 35 MLAs (out of the 122 AIADMK (A) legislators in the assembly). When asked about the merger talks, he said, “It will be held when the rival faction is able to iron out their issues like this.”
After Chennai, TTV may be taken to Kochi, Bengaluru
The Delhi Crime Branch, who had arrested AIADMK (A) deputy general secretary TTV Dinakaran, in a case related to offering bribe to an Election Commission of India official through a middleman to get back the ‘Two Leaves’ symbol, brought him to Chennai for further investigation.
The police team, who had grilled Dinakaran for more than 40 hours in Delhi, brought him by flight and took him to the CBI office at Rajaji Bhavan, Besant Nagar, for more interrogation.
Sources said Dinakaran was given details regarding his conversation with Sukesh Chandrasekhar and provided evidences of his financial deals with him through Dinakaran’s friend Mallikarjuna of Bengaluru. Dinakaran, who initially denied paying money to Sukesh or even knowing him, had reportedly admitted to have contacted Sukesh.
The Police team also took Dinakaran to his residence to collect evidence. It is said that the involvement of a Kochi-based hawala dealer is also under the scanner and that Dinakaran may be taken to Kochi and Bengaluru as well.
