    Karnataka gang behind train robbery?

A Karnataka gang seems to be the masters of a daring robbery on-board Bangalore Mail. The modus operandi is that one of the accused would travel in the targeted train and either pull the chain or operate the disc to stop the train at a location where other members would be waiting. When the train stops, the gang would rush in to the coaches and rob the people of their valuables at knife point.

When the robbers executed such a drama on the train, the passengers were petrified and handed over the valuables to them who then quickly escaped into the darkness.

    No RPF escort

Many passengers told the railway police officials that there were no RPF escort inside the Bangalore mail. The jurisdictional railway police officials boarded the train at Katpadi and conducted inquiry with the passengers. Most of the victims were Chennai residents who were coming back from Bangalore, police said.

Brinda (26), Shaija (36), Kamakshi (33) and Seshakumari (40) had lost their valuables (gold chains) to the robbers. Two Bangalore natives, Saraswathi (36) and Meenakshi (34), also were forced to part with their gold ornaments.

    Investigations

Preliminary investigations revealed that the gang did not use any mobile phones to communicate and the entire operation was carried out to perfection.

While some of the gang members waited at a precise spot en route, one of the gang members on-board pulled the chain at the exact location, to help the other members board the train.

Police suspect that the gang member on board should have kept the latches of the targeted coaches open before he pulled the chain. The Tamil Nadu government railway police had arrested a similar gang, that used to intercept train signals and target passengers. The gang was from Maharashtra and RPF sources said the Pachur robbery could be the handiwork of the Karnataka gang.
