Stalin must lead alliance against BJP: Opposition

As much as it was a precursor to the April 25 general strike called for in support of the state farmers, the public meeting of the DMK-led opposition at Myalpore here on Saturday city was a forerunner to a future political formation led by the principal opposition party.

Stalin almost cobbled up an alliance, courtesy the participating party leaders, most of whom asked him to lead the charge against “communal” BJP and “corrupt” AIADMK.

VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan set the tone by declaring that Stalin has stepped into his shoes and they have gathered not just to muster support for the strike but also defeat the designs of Hindutva forces. Seconding his views, CPI state secretary Mutharasan said, “TN is not run by the AIADMK government. Modi is running BJP government in Tamil Nadu. Thiruma has opened the flood gates.”

An otherwise cautious CPI-M leader A Soundararajan also said, “You can call us a political formation or whatever. This formation will stand for the poor Tamils.”

TNCC chief Su Thirunavukkarasar likened the meeting to a betrothal and said, “This is a meeting which would trigger a major change in TN.”

However, Stalin cautiously skirted politics and said that howsoever strong the efforts of Hindutva forces, he would strive to keep them away from Tamil Nadu.
