The farmers came dressed up as tribal people and put forth their demand to the minister on behalf of the farmers who have been fighting in the national capital for the past one month. However, police arrested six farmers from the group for staging such a novel protest.Â
It was said that a section of farmers led by T Shanmuga Sundaram from Tirumanur in Ariyalur came to the ministers’ office. They handed over a petition to the minister, demanding his resignation condemning the Centre for its anti-farmer activities.Â
They raised slogans against the state and Centre and said that they were left with nothing to wear but leaves as adivasis did. Fort police rushed to the minister’s office on hearing about the protest. They held talks with the agitating farmers. When they refused to leave the office of the minister, police used force to move them out.Â
When the farmers resisted, police arrested six of them, including Shanmuga Sundaram and P Sivakumar.Â
