Southern Railway General Manager gets High Court summons
The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court, directed the General Manager of Southern Railways to appear in the court on June 9 as it was not satisfied by the efforts taken by the Southern Railways in removing the seemai karuvelam plants
Madurai
In the petition filed by the MDMK leader Vaiko and others they had demanded the High Court to direct all the 32 district administrations to remove seemai karuvelam plants across the state. Based on their plea the High Court had given extensive guidelines to all the district administrations and government departments to remove the plants.
On Friday, during the hearing the Court had condemned the Southern Railways for not complying with the court order to remove seemai karuvelam in the state. “The work of Southern Railways is disappointing and hence the GM must appear in the Court on June 9 along with the report of his entire efforts carried out in removing the plants,” said the judges.
The Court also condemned the district administration of Chennai, Thiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Perambalur, Pudukottai and Virudhunagar for the slow pace of work. The tahsildars of Kulathur, Viralimalai, Karambakudi, Ponamaravathi and Thirumayam in Pudukottai district had not shown interests in implementing the court order and hence a suo-motu contempt has been initiated against them, claimed the Judges.
The court appreciated Selvaraj, a life convict serving at the Palayamkottai prison, for donating Rs 1000 towards removal of the seemai karuvelam plan
