1,827 liquor bottles seized from SUV near Kovai

The liquor bottles were stacked under the bonnet and doors of the vehicle. The cops, led by the additional superintendent of police, intercepted the jeep with Chennai registration number, which was heading to Komarapalayam at Kottaimedu area, on the Chennai to Cochin National Highway. The police said that the bottles were from Puducherry and banned for sale in Tamil Nadu.

The police arrested occupants of the car Sengodan (60), his wife Easwari (55) and their son-in-law Ayyappan (34) from Pranthalkadu in Komarapalayam, their relative Deivanai (52) of Cauvery Nagar and car driver Gubendran (32) of Tirupattur in Vellore District. They were later remanded in judicial custody.

With protests everywhere for opening new TASMAC outlets, any new construction using hollow blocks at a quick pace with a fiber roof is feared to be a TASMAC outlet. “We will completely litter this place if it is a TASMAC outlet,” said many Tamil printouts affixed on the walls of a hollow block structure near the bridge under construction at SIHS Colony in Coimbatore. At Salem city, members of the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) and the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) picketed a TASMAC outlet at Swarnapuri area that was functioning at a distance of less than 100 metres from the highway. Protesters left the place after the Tahsildar gave an assurance that the shop would be closed.
