Talking to the media after taking part in a book release function at Namakkal on Saturday, Nedumaran said that the State Government should follow the Supreme Court’s direction of closing such outlets across State and National Highways. He felt that the government should also respect the sentiments of the people and stop efforts to relocate the shops to villages and residential areas.

Nedumaran observed that women who are familiar with the ill-effects of alcohol, have taken to the streets to protest relocation of Tasmac outlets. At this juncture, he made an appeal to the State and Union Governments not to oppress protests by women, students, youth and farmers as it would further escalate the issue.

On the other hand, protests and road blockades against relocation of TASMAC outlets continued in the western parts of Tamil Nadu for the eight day on Saturday. Protests are likely to continue as officials are yet to find suitable locations for relocation of Tasmac outlets that have been shut down.
