Snag hits TTPS, Koodankulam-II power plants

The first to shut down on Tuesday was the recently operationalised unit II of the KKNPP which has a capacity to produce 1,000 MW. The second unit attained criticality and commercial power production commenced on March 31 by linking it to southern grid. 

The power production started gradually and was increased in subsequent days. When the unit was producing around 700 MW of power, the plant suffered some technical issues. It was subsequently shut down on Tuesday morning. Officials said that the technical glitches would be resolved in three days and the power production would be restarted as early as possible. 

Similarly, power production in the third unit of Thoothukudi Thermal Power Station (TTPS) had also been stopped due to technical problems. The unit suffered a boiler puncture affecting power production. TTPS houses five units of 210 MW each. All the units were running beyond their life term of 25 years.
