Overall performance of the state has been one of the best as many institutions had made it to the list in categories such as: Overall, Engineering, Management, Universities, Colleges and Pharmacy. IIT-Madras retained the first position among Engineering Institutions in the NIRF Ranking 2017.

Prof Bhaskar Ramamurthi, Director, IIT-Madras said in a press release, “It is a matter of great satisfaction for IIT-Madras that it continues to be ranked number one among engineering institutions in the country.

We have improved our performance on most parameters, and quite significantly too on some key ones. We are heartened that this improved performance has ensured we remain at the top position for the second year in a row.”

On the other hand, NIT-Tiruchy has been ranked as the top National Institute of Technology. The prestigious institution retained its first position among the 31 NITs in India in the NIRF 2017 Ranking (Engineering) released by the MHRD Minister Prakash Javadekar on Monday.

NIT-T has been placed in the 11th spot in the overall rankings in 2017 list. The institute has moved one slot up than last year’s ranking. NIT-Tiruchy Director Mini Shaji Thomas congratulated every member of the institution including their family members for achieving this feat.

“However, we face stiff competition from other institutions, we will analyse the results carefully, take the feedback from stakeholders and improve in the coming years with support from all,” she said. Vellore Institute of Technology has been ranked 22 in the Overall list. VIT has been placed in the 13th spot in the Engineering category, 17th place in Management category and 14th in Universities category.

“We are glad that all the hard work has paid off. We will work harder to improve ourselves and will progress further in the field of bio technology and research,” said G Viswanathan, Chancellor VIT University. Experts opined that these rankings only prove the dominance of Tamil Nadu in the field of education and it would attract more students from other states.
