    Tamil Nadu team pitches for boats, fishing rights

    A six-member team of fishermen held talks with External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj in New Delhi on Tuesday.

    The delegation from Rameswaram met the Sushma Swaraj after Union ministers Pon Radhakrishnan and Nirmala Sitharaman promised to arrange a meeting. 

    Speaking to DTNext, one of the representatives, Devadas, claimed that the team stressed on three issues during the talks. First was to arrest the Lankan Navy personnel who were responsible for killing K.Bridjo (21) and to provide compensation to his family. Second was to release more than 100 boats held by Sri Lankan government. The third demand to government was to ensure their traditional fishing rights. 

    The Swaraj said that her agency was holding talks with the Lankan government to release the confiscated boats and to take action against the Navy personnel who killed Bridjo. Regarding the traditional fishing rights, she asked them to wait as the Sri Lankan fishermen are also demanding the same.
