Accusing the ruling AIADMK here of being indifferent to the sufferings of the farmers in the state on Saturday, Stalin claimed that over 200 farmers have died in distress owing to acute drought in delta region.
He demanded the Centre to turn its attention immediately towards the agitating farmers, who have been braving the cold in the national capital for the past five days. He urged the Union government to take necessary steps to protect the livelihood of the farmers in the state.
Recalling how the DMK had promptly waived Rs 7,000 crore worth farm loans during its 2006 – 11 tenure, Stalin accused the ruling AIADMK of not waiving the farmers’ loans despite promising the same in its election manifesto. Wondering as to why the state government had not taken over the crop loans of farmers pending in nationalised banks, Stalin urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to fulfill the just demands of the farmers.
