National Joint General Secretary V Bhaigaih, speaking to reporters after the inauguration of the annual national body meet in Ettamadai here said that the RSS has no role to play in the choice of the BJP Chief Minister in UP. He was responding to a specific question if the RSS has influenced the BJP to select Yogi Adityanath as UP Chief Minister, even as 312 MLAs of the party has been elected in the state.

“We (RSS) will not pressurise BJP over political issues, the party was functioning independently,” Bhaigaih said. He said even Prime Minister Narendra Modi is attached to the RSS and quite a few RSS pracharaks are holding high positions in the BJP.

“But they are not influenced by the Sangh,” he added.

Accusing the Bengal government of remaining a mute spectator to the attacks unleashed by Islamic fundamentalists in the state, the RSS joint general secretary said, the issue will be taken up for debate in the Akhila Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha.

Coming down heavily on Mamata Banerjee, Bhaigaih said, “The (West Bengal) government is supporting Islamic, fundamental jihadis for the sake of vote bank in the last three to four years. This has resulted in violence, loot, arson and murder. This is not a healthy sign for the nation’s interest and security.”

To a question on the killings of RSS and CPM workers in neighbouring Kerala, Bagaiah said “It is the basic nature of that party (CPI-M), which is intolerant.” Bhaigaih said that the Sangh’s work is continuously increasing in a phased manner in the last decade.

“Our membership is witnessing a drastic increase year-on-year over the last two years and the number of participants who are voluntarily spending from their pockets for attending the state, regional and national level training programmes are on the rise,” he said.

“Apart from expansion, consolidation of Sangh works is going on,” the RSS national leader added.

Earlier, the Council meet was inaugurated by RSS Sarsanghachalak, Mohan Bhagawat on Sunday and is being attended by more than 1,400 representatives from across the country.
