Tiruchy set to see hottest summer in a century

Tiruchy seems to be bracing for the hottest summer, probably in the last 100 years, as the mercury levels are likely to cross the 113 degree fahrenheit mark, predict meteorologists and other weather experts.

The maximum temperature recorded in previous years has never crossed the 110 degree fahrenheit mark, they pointdd out. According to P Surender, a climate observer from Tiruchy, “The poor rainfall during both the monsoon seasons has paved the way for the mercury levels to shoot up this year. We need to wait for at least a year to check whether the Sun’s radiation will reach its peak as there will be less moisture to balance the intensity of the weather conditions.”

Arasu, another climate change analyst from Clima Adapt said, “This is a regular occurrence. All we need to do is find ways to adapt with this climate change because this year’s summer will be the hottest of the century and people have already started experiencing it”.

From March 19, temperature would easily cross 100 degree fahrenheit which is four degrees warmer than the previous year’s. “If such activities are witnessed, there will be bright prospects of summer rain and it may come in a week’s time. This again is a natural phenomenon,” Arasu explained.

However, the temperature has already reached 40 degree Celsius, and something of this magnitude had not occurred in the past decade as per records with the Indian Meteorological Department. The highest temperature for the month of March recorded in the past decade was 39.6 during 2012. But, even in 2012, the level did not touch or cross the 40 degree Celsius barrier.

The predictions for the week after March 28 shows that the mercury will cross the 112 degree fahrenheit bar (44.4 degree celsius) and it would be extremely dry and with nil humidity.
