Fishermen to withdraw protest
Protesting fishermen at Thangachimadam near Rameswaram decided to withdraw their protest by March 13evening after holding talks with Union Ministers Nirmala Sitharaman and Pon Radhakrishnan on March 12.

The fishermen community was protesting the death of K Bridjo (21), from Thangachimadam, who was allegedly shot dead by the Sri Lankan Navy while fishing midsea on March 6. On Sunday, the protest entered the sixth day.Â
Union Ministers Nirmala Sitharaman and Pon Radhakrishnan visited Thangachimadam and held discussion with the fishermen. They also consoled Bridjo’s family. Nirmala Sitharaman assured them that action would be taken against the Sri Lankan Navy personnel and all their other demands would also be fulfilled. She requested the protesters to withdraw their protest. Based on the assurance, fishermen leaders met the media and announced that they would withdraw their protest.
