The kin and the protesters had refused to accept neither the body of Bridjo nor the cheque of Rs 5 lakh given as compensation by the government.

Following the incident, other fishermen started their protest at Thangachimadam on Tuesday morning. All the Rameswaram fishermen staged strike and continued it for the second day on Wednesday.

On the second day, the fishermen were joined by youngsters and women across the state. The fishermen stay rooted to their demand of Union External Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj, meeting them. They claimed that they had seen enough of local politicians and officials giving them promises and they do not want any more arrests or loss of life from their side.

The solution for their protest lies in Sushma Swaraj’s visiting Thangachimadam and assuring them that the Navy personnel who shot the fishermen would be arrested and such incidents would not happen in the future. Until this happens their protest would continue claimed the fishermen.
