Dharmapuri MP and leader of the PMK youth wing, Anbumani Ramadoss said in a statement that reports of human rights violations during Eelam war had been submitted by the Commissioner for UN Human Rights Commission to the UN council. “The debate regarding this issue is to begin on March 22 and the Commissioner is not satisfied with the justification furnished by the Sri Lankan government,” he said and added that the Sri Lankan government had not passed any resolution so far.
Stating that the Lankan President, Prime Minister and Ministers were not serious about the issue and were speaking in different tones every day, Anbumani condemned it as irresponsible act. “This is highly condemnable and the Lankan government should formulate a plan to implement the resolution passed by the UN,” he said. Calling for the appointment of international judges to inquire into the genocide, Anbumani said “the law should be amended in Sri Lanka, so that there can be free and fair probe into the mass murder.”
“The UN Commissioner has already accused Sri Lanka of protecting the offenders and evading punishment,” the PMK leader said and stressed that India should not keep away to protect Sri Lanka anymore and should come forward to uphold justice.
“India should initiate necessary measures to pass a resolution in the UN Human Rights Council to punish Sri Lanka and it should put forth demands mentioned in the reports of the Commissioner,” he said and charged that Sri Lanka did not fulfill the promises made to the UN Council in the past. Since Tamils have faith in the Indian government, justice should be done without delay and the Centre without hesitation should interfere in the matter, Anbumani noted
