Neduvasal still on boil, political leaders swarm spot

The police placed checkposts at  Avanam, Pulichankadu Kaikatti, Pullanviduthi, Keeramangalam, Vadakadu and also at the entrance of Neduvasal and Kottaikadu to regulate the vehicles and crowd. It is said, the police have been collecting the details of the vehicles like registration number of car, details of the owner, mobile number and also the details of the occupants. They even keep on sending back the students and youth who intend to go to Neduvasal to take part in the protest. Since the vehicle checks by the police created flutter, a group of youth posted their mobile numbers for assistance and gave directions to reach the protesting spot.  Meanwhile, the political leaders including Thol Thirumavalavan (VCK), R Mutharasan (CPI) and G Ramakrishnan (CPM) along with their cadre staged a protest at Alangudi taluk office.  

“At least five lakh farmers and their cultivable land would be damaged if the Hydrocarbon project has been implemented and the Centre should discuss with the people and get their opinion prior to introducing these projects,” Thiruma said. He also charged that the Centre, in order to dilute the protesters who have been demanding a compensation to the farmers who died due to crop failure, has declared the hydrocarbon project but the people will fight till the project is withdrawn, he stressed. Similarly, MDMK General Secretary Vaiko who visited the protesters at Neduvasal expressed his solidarity and appealed to the youth join the war against anti-people project. “The entire delta will become a desert if the project is implemented,” Vaiko stressed and added that the Modi government has been only favouring the corporate companies and not the public.

Actor Prabhu said that actors will lend their voice for the problems faced by the common man. Talking to reporters at the Coimbatore International Airport on Tuesday, he pressed for a proper study to be conducted on the hydrocarbon project at Neduvasal village in Pudukottai district, which is making big news following a string of protests by farmers, villagers and activists. He said that the government should analyse the issue and stand by farmers and villagers if the project would affect them. He also stated that the officials who study the project should also create awareness among the people on the project and clarify the queries and confusions in the minds of the people. He added that the work should be stopped if it will affect them.
