The move which raised eyebrows and hackles in equal measure in the AIADMK ranks drew criticism as Dinakaran and Venketesh were both reinstated by Sasikala on Tuesday. Venketesh was the former secretary of the male and female youth ‘pasarai’.

In a statement, Sasikala said that the reinstatement followed both pleading forgiveness in person and in writing. “They had requested that they be reinstated and allowed to function as ordinary members from Tuesday,” Sasikala said in the release.

The move comes a day after Sasikala terminated a total of 20 persons from the primary membership of the party including Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, School Education Minister K Pandiarajan and others.

But Dinakaran’s nomination as deputy general secretary when records clearly reveal a break in his continuous membership has drawn the ire of those who are against Sasikala who claimed that even she was just a nominated general secretary.

When asked, AIADMK women’s wing member J Jenifer of Vellore said, “How can she continue to act like this when she knows that most of the people of the state are against her?”

Meanwhile, Kollywood actress Gautami Tadimalla expressed her support to Chief Minister O Paneerselvam on Wednesday.
