Only doctors can comment on foul play, not public: Panruti Ramchandran
“AIADMK has the right to decide who should be chief minister and we in the party have accepted it. We accepted O Panneerselvam as chief minister and when he himself wanted VK Sasikala to take over, it shows that we are united. Only when someone is given a chance to prove themselves can judgements be formed,” said former minister Panruti Ramchandran on Tuesday.

Ramachandran said that when the party split in 1987 after MGR’s death Pandian did nothing to help the party. “Instead, he created confusion by taking 33 MLAs out and later dissolving the assembly. When the AIADMK factions wanted to unite in 1990 and reclaim the two leaves symbol, Pandian did nothing,” he added. Pandian joined the DMK in 1991, he said. “Not trusting the AIADMK, Pandian contested as an independent in 1996 and was defeated,” he said.
Referring to Sasikala, he said that Jayalalithaa introduced her to Rajiv Gandhi as her friend in 1990 and as ‘a mother who cared for her’ when she was introduced to the then PM AB Vajpayee in 1998. “Pandian’s moves are aimed at preventing Sasikala from becoming CM and nothing can stop this even if he goes to Delhi or even to America,” Sengottyan said.
Referring to Pandian’s allegation of foul play in the late CM’s death, Ramachandran said it was for doctors to comment on this and not the public.
On the general council being empowered to elect a person, Ramachandran said this was the fallout of some members ousting MGR from the DMK through a resolution. “Not wanting anybody else to undergo the same experience it was MGR who ordered that rules be framed so that all cadres voted to elect a general secretary. Pandian obviously does not know this” he said. “However, where do the rules say that the general council should not nominate a person” he added.
