5 killed as car rams lorry near Perambalur
Five persons died on the spot and eight sustained severe injuries after the car in which they were travelling rammed a lorry near Padalur on Tiruchy– Chennai bypass in the wee hours of February 7.

It is said that a group of contract workers with Railways from Panavaram village in Vellore district — Janadthanan (50), Dellibabu (19), Rajesh (21), Settu (36), Sankar (30), Balaji (21), Haribabu (33), Mani (30), Madhavan (35), Kumar (35), Parthiban (35), Narasimhan (35) and another Narasimhan (38) were travelling in the car to Karur for a railway related work.
When the car reached at Padalur at around 1.15 am, Kumar, who was driving the driver, lost control over the wheel and hit the parapet and rammed a lorry that was proceeding from Madurai. In the impact, the car was crushed and all the 13 in the car sustained severe injuries.
While Kumar, Parthiben, Sankar and Narasimhan died on the spot, others were rushed to the GH. Another person, Narasimhan, died on the way to hospital. On information, Padalur police arrived at the spot and carried out investigation. SP Sonal Chandra visited the spot and arrested Rajan of Karur, the driver of the lorry. Traffic was disrupted for around three hours in the highway due to the accident.
