Tamil Nadu Collectors honoured for voting campaign
Madurai Collector, K Veera Raghav Rao, was given the President’s Award for best Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation(SVEEP) activities. He was honoured with the award by President Pranab Mukherjee at New Delhi, on National Voters Day.

Officials at Madurai Collectorate claimed that the Collector during the 2016 Assembly elections had carried out special awareness programmes among the youth about voting. He had also conducted novel programmes to increase the voting percentage in the district. Listing the steps taken by Rao to boost voter awareness, district officials said, “He worked systematically to carry out SVEEP activities with the sole aim of increasing voting percentage. He was keen on making young voters to come to polling booths.”
Activities such as signature campaigns, rallies of college students, mega human chain events participated by more than 1,500 policemen, sports events such as mini-marathon, kolam competition for members of women self-help groups, awareness programmes through posts, mehendi contest for college students, mountain climbing event, installing banners on top of the mountain and a host of other initiatives were organised by the Collector.
He even released a postal stamp to highlight the importance of voting. TIruchy Collector KS Palanisamy has been presented with an award for electoral Roll Management, by the President. He had promoted an intensive campaign among the youth who completed 18 years to get themselves enrolled in the voters’ list. He also organised a series of rallies, events and displayed several digital banners and posters detailing the importance of being a voter.
