District officials busy at Alanganallur

Soon after the information regarding the nod for jallikattu was conveyed to  the Madurai administration by the State secretariat, Collector Veera Raghava Rao put the district administration machnery on top gear to make all arrangements. With Chief Minister O Panneerselvam set to flagg off the event at the jallikattu heartland, works are on at a hectic pace. 

The Collector, who met media persons on Saturday said that he along with Madurai SP Vijayendra Bidari reviewed the security arrangements at Alanganallur. Over 2,500 policemen would be stationed at Alanganallur for the safe conduct of jallikattu. 

A two-layered barricade would be setup near the vadivasal and all other necessary measures were in place. Nearly 17 teams of veterinarians would be stationed at the venue and all the 340 participant bulls would be screened and certified before being sent to the arena. 

As part of medicare, 20 ambulances would be at the disposal of officials to ferry the injured to hospitals. Fire and Rescue service personnel would be present at the spot to meet any emergency. 

The bull fighters would also be thoroughly checked and those between 21 and 40 years would only be allowed. The organising committee members had also been briefed about the situation. 

When asked about jallikattu at Palamedu and Avaniapuram, Rao claimed that the dates have not been confirmed yet. Jallikattu organising committee had informed the administration that January 25 would be an ideal date and the Palamedu committee had informed that they would convey their date after a meeting on Sunday.
