Bharathiyar Memorial Trust, Kovilpatti, in association with Tamil Baptist Primary School at Ettayapuram, had organised a function in the school and students, who were less than 10 years of age adorned dhotis. Industrialist Srinivasan, from Ettayapuram, distributed sweets to the students and presided over the function. He also interacted with the students and asked them to purchase new dhtois every year and to wear them frequently to help the livelihood of the weavers. 
Muthumurugan, founder, Bharathiyar Memorial Trust, in his address claimed that it was Tamil people who had developed the art of making dhotis from cotton about 2,000 years ago and it is the duty of Tamil people to uphold the tradition. Sagayam, former Managing Director of Cooptex, had introduced the Dhoti day and ensured that all the officials and people wear dhotis to help weavers. Dhoti day is followed by people of all walks of life to uphold tradition of Tamil people claimed Muthumurugan. Not just students but also government officials celebrated Dhoti day. 
At Srivaikuntam in Thoothukudi district, all those working at the Srivaikuntam Taluk office were seen wearing Dhotis on Friday and they too pledged to wear Dhotis every year to sustain the Tamil tradition. At Tirunelveli, workers of Pothys organised a dhoti awareness rally in which more than 400 workers participated. All wore dhotis during the rally and held placards and banners containing statements about the importance of dhotis. The rally, which started from the showroom went through the streets near Nellaippar Temple before returning to the starting point.
