Criticising Thambidurai’s reasoning that the general secretary of the ruling party and Chief Minster should be the same person, Elangovan told media persons here that his reasoning was unheard off in a democracy.

“Though the choice of the Chief Minister is the prerogative of the ruling party, it would have augured well for the office Thambidurai holds if he had made the proposition (making Sasikala CM) after quitting the office of deputy speaker,” Elangovan said, dismissing Thambidurai’s justification by referring to the Congress and BJP in which the party presidents and Prime Ministers were different people.

On the issue of the Madras High Court raising suspicions over late Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s death, the former TNCC chief categorically ruled out the question of exhuming the late CM’s body and still asserted that it was natural for the people to seek to know the circumstances that led to her death as she went to the hospital alive and came out dead after 75 days of treatment. Elangovan also maintained that the hospital has the bounden duty to reveal the details of the treatment given and drugs administered and how the late Chief Minister responded to the same.

He also announced a statewide agitation on January 5 condemning the Modi regime for continuing to put the people through hardship even 50 days after demonetisation.
